The Gardening Truth

Hey Sweetie,

In your life you are probably going to hear someone, somewhere say “That’s the Gospel Truth.” What they are intending with that statement is that something they have told you is no joke, very true, and you can count on it.

I was reading some comments from Matthew Henry while reading Proverbs. Commentary is when theologians talk about what they think a Scripture or part of the Bible intends. A theologian is someone who studies about God, writes about Him, or teaches about Him.

Matthew Henry is one of my favorite people. Want to know why? He was committed to the Lord and he spent his life sharing and writing about God over 300 years ago!

Here's what he said that really caught my eye:

“He (sinners) hated to be reformed he therefore hated to be informed, and could not endure either to be told his duty or to be told of his faults.”

This made me think about a master gardener. Not just any gardener. No. He is a master at it. And he’s your friend.

One day he comes by your house. He notices something very small in your newly planted garden that will soon ruin it.

He points it out. You’re surprised and thankful because he gave you the remedy, too. He told you just how to fix it. You didn’t storm off saying how arrogant and what a hypocrite he was. No. You were thankful.

So happy and thankful are you because you will keep your beautiful garden and it won’t be destroyed because your friend, the master gardener, cared enough to tell you.

How much more should you appreciate those who love you enough to tell you the truth?

Love Always, Bamma
